Joe Montanino
Head Instructor
Joe started his journey in the martial arts in 1972 with George Mattson, Sensei, in Boston at the historic Hancock street dojo. After attaining his second dan in Uechi Ryu with George Mattson and Bob Campbell, Sensei, Joe continued his training with Jon Cierri, Sensei, south of Boston in Marshfield. Joe continued training with J. Cierri and later trained under the late Jack Summers, Sensei, from the Quincy dojo.
Joe presently holds the master rank of Kyoshi, 8th dan. He has been to Okinawa, Japan multiple times over the years and has trained with many of the style's most venerated masters. He continues to visit and train in Okinawa to this day.
Joe's philosophy is train for the "perfect technique" with quick "relaxing" (soft) blocks. He continues his training with his students at the Academy of Okinawan Karate in Marshfield, Mass.
Wayne Greenside
Sensei Wayne Greenside
Wayne began his martial arts journey in 1983 moving on to training in Uechi Ryu Karate in Marshfield under Sensei Jon Cierri in 1984. Training with Sensei Cierri for a number of years he attained his third dan and an instructor's certification. He then continues to train under Sensei Joe Montanino since 1995 in Marshfield and also under the late Sensei Jack Summers of Quincy acquiring a Master Instructor's certification.
Wayne presently holds the master rank of Kyoshi, 7th dan. He has trained in Okinawa with the masters there as well as training with the masters when they have visited here in the United States. He continues to expand his training within the Academy of Okinawan Karate in Marshfield as well as through seminars with colleagues and other instructors who have also trained under the late Sensei Summers and the Okinawan Masters.
Wayne's philosophy is to embrace the art of the Martial Arts. He believes in maintaining the traditions of Okinawan Karate, discovering the origins of the art and its techniques, exploring those techniques and then applying them.
